A breast prosthesis placed from the inframammary fold should not be preferred for patients with upright and small breasts. In patients with natural breast fold, the scar will be camouflaged much more easily. It is the most preferred method due to the comfort it provides to the physician and the advantage of sensitive operation.

The breast prosthesis placed from the armpit line is a very preferred method because the scar is far from the breast, even if there is a faint scar under the armpit. Since the incision point is far from the breast, it makes it difficult for the physician to work.

The breast prosthesis placed from the nipple is provided with an incision made from the brown area called the areola. The incision scar disappears very easily in the brown area, but it is not preferred in patients who want to have a child in order to ensure that it does not cause any problem in breastfeeding.

• Placement in the submuscular area is a highly preferred method as it camouflages the prosthesis very well. It provides a natural appearance and does not affect the function of the muscle under which it is placed, making the natural breast tissue stand out. Since the prosthesis is carried by a very strong muscle rather than the breast tissue, it is not possible for the prosthesis to go down with gravity. Since the deep tissues are intervened, the recovery period is longer than supramuscular operations.
• Since the breast tissue cannot be adequately camouflaged in patients with insufficient breast tissue or very weak patients, supramuscular placement of prosthesis distorts the natural appearance. Therefore, this procedure should be preferred in patients with sufficient breast tissue.

Food and water should not be consumed 12 hours before the day of surgery. The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia, immediately after the surgery, the breasts are wrapped with a special bandage and a sports bra is put on. The hospital stay is 1 night, swelling and bruising are considered normal at a certain level and gradually disappear within 1 month. The patient can return to social life 10-12 days after the surgery, but should avoid from excessive movement and activity during the recovery process.

You should not take a shower for 2-3 days from the day of the surgery. At the end of the medical examination, a shower can be taken with the approval of the physician, but the water must be warm. Hot or cold water should not be kept on the breast and the breasts should not be rubbed.

Considering the role of the breasts in sexual activity, any sexual activity should not be performed for 15 days after the surgery, and it would be healthier to avoid touching and hitting the breast in the first 3 months. After the recovery period is completed, breast prostheses do not create any situation that prevents sexual activity. If the applied prosthesis is selected in the most suitable type and size according to the breast tissue of the person, it cannot be seen artificially from the outside or felt by touch.

Prostheses used in breast surgery are approved by the Food and Drug Administration and do not cause any health problems. In today’s technology, breast prostheses do not cause any melting or mixing with blood. Expressions such as the melting and shrinking of the breast prosthesis at a rate of 1% each year are valid only for prostheses with very old technology.
