Hair Transplantation
Hair transplantation is the process of transferring healthy hair follicles to areas where hair follicle cells are no longer active and balding occurs, through microsurgical methods.
This treatment provides a natural and permanent solution to the problem of thinning and baldness in people with hair shedding or loss. The patient’s own healthy hair is transferred to the area to be transplanted. Hair transplantation is planned completely according to the complaint and hair conditions of the person and the appropriate technique is applied. With the hair transplantation procedure, the hair follicles resistant to shedding are collected in the donor area (Occipital Area) where the hair is genetically permanent and transplanted in the parts where the hair is thinned or completely shredded. There are different techniques that can be performed for this hair transplantation procedure.
In order to achieve a natural appearance in hair transplantation, the planting angle and direction of the transplanted roots should be planned very well. Newly planted hair follicles should proceed in the natural flow direction of the old hair follicles. Considering the area where the hair follicles are taken, the number of grafts taken from the patient is not unlimited. Planting an average of 40 grafts (80 hair follicles on average) in an area of 1 cm will be sufficient for a natural appearance. Excessive and too dense hair transplantation is unnecessary as hair cannot be fed and grown by tissues.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. The patient is informed about this. In the most preferred Fue method, the extraction of grafts (hair follicles) takes 3-4 hours, while the transplantation process of 3500-4500 grafts may take 8-10 hours. During this period, breaks are given based on the needs of the patient and the team, and the patient is supported to be fed with sweet and salty foods and water. This is important in terms of not reducing blood sugar and pressure as the patient will get tired during this time.
- FUE (Follicular unit extraction): It refers to the treatment procedure in which the follicles extracted one by one in clusters are placed one by one into the opened micro channels.
- CHOI (DHI) Hair Transplantation: Direct Hair İmplantation: In this method, grafts are collected thanks to a medical pen called choi, and then the hair taken with this pen is placed directly on the skin without opening an incision or channel.
- Sapphire hair transplantation: This minimally invasive method, which is applied with sharp-tipped special surgical pens made of sapphire ore, is an advanced version of the FUE hair transplant technique.
- Needle-Free (Painless) Hair Transplantation: It refers to the injection of anaesthetic substances and corticosteroids under the skin by pressure without using a needle.
- Unshaven Hair Transplantation: It refers to a hair transplantation method that is applied without shaving the front, side and top parts of the hair. In this method, the only part that is shaved is the donor area where the hair on the back of the head will be collected.
- FUT: A piece of hairy skin tissue is removed from the nape of the patient with a surgical procedure and closed with suture method. The grafts are transferred to the desired area over the skin taken. It is an outdated method that is almost never used in today’s technology.
Shock shedding is seen in the transplanted hair within 1-3 months and the transplanted hair starts to grow again from the root. This is a situation that varies from person to person. In some patients, no shedding is observed, while in some patients even all of the hair can be lost. The expectation is that all the hair will fall out and this is a normal process. Shedding hair starts to grow after the dormant phase, that is, 3 months after planting, and takes the desired form within 8 to 10 months. Since the top of the head develops a little later, this region is expected to recover within 10-12 months.
Shower after hair transplantation is of big importance. If it is not done carefully and regularly, the crusts formed by the drying of micro haemorrhages during hair transplantation will prevent the feeding and ventilation of the hair follicles.
According to the hair transplantation method, the physician decides when to wash the patient’s hair after the procedure, which usually takes between 1 and 4 days. 48 hours after hair transplantation procedure is the most important time period. During this period, the hair follicles attach to the tissues. Incorrect contact with hair should be avoided. It is very important to apply the washing method, washing period and care products recommended by the physician.
